With “Black” history 📖 you think of the same players everyone learned about in school (MLK Jr, Parks, etc). I aimed to change that perspective by creating a 📱web experience curating the names of influential ✊🏾 Black Americans, ⏳ past & present, and giving them the recognition they deserve🏅. Because Black History is American History.👏🏾🇺🇸
Black In History is an editorial-style blog/microsite that aims to use design as a weapon to affect perspectives on race and culture. The goal was to turn the idea of “black history” on its head by pushing the message that these people's accomplishments influenced everyone’s lives in many ways other than advancing social progress, or civil rights. They made contributions to society in ways everyone can relate to.
BIH was built from scratch on top of the Tumblr platform, pushing their theming capabilities to their limit at the time. It's been featured by numerous publications (Webbys, Complex, Buzzfeed) and has amassed over 86,000+ followers.
